Concepts In Drumming has the reputation of creating well versed students of the drums in a very reasonable amount of time in many styles of music. The menu ranges as follows: Rock, Straight Ahead Jazz, Funk, Fusion, Latin, Reggae, and Hip-Hop just to name a few. It is referred to as a menu because the student is able to choose which of the styles he would like to focus on. Although it is advised to study as many different styles of music as possible, nothing is forced on the student. These lessons are for the enjoyment of the student in all aspects of the lessons. Aside from styles, there is also a focus on musical scenarios. For instance: Chart Reading, Studio Playing, Playing to a click, Live Performance, Playing song forms, Transcription and so on. This creates a well rounded musician and makes him / her more valuable to market himself / herself in the future, as well as builds a confident musician.

Fran's unique methods and approaches to teaching the art of playing drum set are truly innovative. All of the great methods, techniques and fundamentals of the past have been coupled with Fran's own techniques which were discovered throughout his 24 year (and still counting) journey of learning the instrument. The result is an evolution of drum set instruction which is more sympathetic to the requirements of  a professional drummer by present day standards. These methods can truly change the way you think about playing!!

Fran's Theory Of Concepts

Why is it that some kids think their math class is so easy and others think it is so hard? Is intelligence the only factor? The fact is that the concept a teacher uses to teach a lesson may be easily understood by many but not by all. Everyone’s mind works differently. Unfortunately, it is common for teachers to use the same teaching concepts for all of their students. As a result, the mystery of why some students “get it” and some students don’t occurs.

This is why I tailor the concepts I use in teaching my material to the individual student. If one concept works, I stick with it. If another one doesn’t I move to the next until I find one that does. I even find myself creating new concepts to get students to understand. In short, the material I teach is not presented in one way and one way only. I am confident I can get anyone to understand drumming and reading music through the use of multiple concepts.
